Homework week of October 24th & October 31st

Homework week of October 24th & week of October 31st
(Halloween and Conference Week)

Monday, October 24th

Social Studies- Make a Family Tree. Use the rough draft you made in class to help you.  Your family tree should date back to your grandparents. If you can go farther or want to include more extended relatives, please do so. If your family and you do not know the name of a relative, make it up. No one will know. :) Please draw or attach a picture of each person in your family tree. Also there is a regular sized white paper in the red folder for you to use, but if you want to use your own paper and make it bigger you can.

Discuss the family tree with your parents. Are there any traditions that are passed down in your family tree like the same middle name, or the same professions? Practice reading and discussing your family tree at home. You will be presenting them on Thursday. Turn in your Family Tree on Thursday.

Superkids Online Login Information

I have resent parent emails login in access to 12 parents.  Superkids is time sensitive so if you didn't accept the email in the beginning of the year it wont let you sign in. Please accept the email ASAP so you won't be logged out.

From what I can see, Superkids has changed it's format and won't let parents access the test anymore. Superkids still has the interactive textbook and magazine on it.

Thanks,
Ms. Wilkinson

There are lots of examples of healthy food online and on pinterest that students will love and eat. Here is an example of one that I found. It is very similar to the healthy snack that we just read in our Superkids Magazine. Please ask your child about the cool new recipe that they read about. :)

Apple Monsters – A Nut-Free, Healthy Halloween Treat!

~ Halloween treats can be healthy, too! These silly monster faces will be sure to make your kiddos giggle, and you’ll be thrilled with the nutritious snack they’re begging for during Halloween! Made with nut-free butter, these allergy-friendly Apple Monsters are perfect for class parties, too! ~

Yield: 8 monster faces
Ingredients
  • 1 apple
  • ⅓ cup, plus 2 teaspoons nut-free butter spread, divided (see note)
  • Puffed rice cereal
  • 4 red grapes, each sliced vertically in half
  • 8 green grapes
  • 16 chocolate chips
Preparation
  1. Quarter and core the apple, then quarter each piece again, so you have 16 thin wedges.
  2. Spread 1 teaspoon nut-free butter on each apple slice.
  3. Lay half of the apple slices on top of the other halves, (matching up nut-free butter sides so the apple slices stick together) to create the "mouth."
  4. Push puffed rice "teeth" gently into the nut-free butter, all around the "mouth," leaving room to place a red grape "tongue" on the bottom slice of each "month."
  5. Place one red grape half in the center of each bottom slice to create the "tongue."
  6. To create the "eyes," slice the ends off the green grapes, then cut each grape in half horizontally. (If your grapes are exceptionally large, you may get more than two "eyes" out of each one.) Using the tip of the knife, make a small slit in the top of each grape half, then place a chocolate chip, pointy-end down, into the grape, pushing the point of the chocolate chip into the slit you cut.
  7. Place two small dollops of nut-free butter on the top portion of each "mouth," then gently press a grape "eye" onto each dollop.
  8. Enjoy immediately, or store in the refrigerator for an hour or two before serving. Nut-free butter: We chose WowButter (a soy-based, nut-free product), but you could also substitute a peanut-free sunbutter (made from sunflower seeds). Alternately, if nut allergies aren’t a concern, you can use regular peanut butter.

RETAKE Online Superkids test Beginning of the year test. I want to see how much you improved since the beginning of the year. ;)

On Superkids for Second grade are: Interactive Readers and interactive SUPER magazines, online assessments.

Superkids Online Fun can be launched from a computer, iPad, or Android tablet that is connected to the Internet. You must first install the Superkids Online Fun app before you can launch it on an iPad or Android tablet. Search for “Superkids Online Fun” in the Apple App Store or the Google Play store to get the app. If you are using a computer or laptop to launch Superkids Online Fun, the device must be able to run Flash version 10.1 or higher.

How do my students launch and log in to Superkids Online Fun at home?
There are two ways for students to launch Superkids Online Fun at home:
  • Parent portal (web version): Children should use this method if they are using a laptop or desktop computer.
  • Superkids Online Fun app: Children should use this method if they are using iPads or Android tablets to access Superkids Online Fun.

Parent portal (web version): Parents can log in to the parent portal and click the Superkids Online Fun button to open it for their children.
Superkids Online Fun app: If the Superkids Online Fun app is installed on an iPad or Android tablet that a child uses at home, students can use it to access the same games and interactive books that are available in the web version of Superkids Online Fun.

There is information for parents on how to install the app in the Frequently Asked Questions page of the parent portal.

Parents do not need to know their child's picture password for Superkids Online Fun. Launching Superkids Online Fun through a parent account will bypass the student log-in process.
